Professor Dr. Sergey V. Ryazantsev, Professor, Head of the Center of Social Demography and Economic Sociology of the Institute Social Politic Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, together with his graduate students from Moscow State Institute of International Relations University (MGIMO), and Institute of Social and Political Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences (ISPR RAS) visited IPSR. On the occasion of the academic collaboration, Dr. Sakkarin Niyomsilpa gave a presentation on the current migration situation in Thailand.
On January 26th, 2018, researchers of a collaborative research between Mahidol University, Thailand and University of Sussex, UK organised a meeting on “The Search for a Better Life: How Partnerships with “Older” Westerners Shape Thai Life Changes, Social Relationships and Development”. This research is supported by the Newton Advanced Fellowship, and the Thailand Research Fund. Professor Aphichat Chamratrithirong, Director of Mahidol Migration Center, Institute for Population and Social Research gave an opening remark followed by Associate Professor Sureeporn Punpuing presented background of the project and its research questions and objectives.
Dr.Dusita Phuengsamran, the Principle Investigator, Assistant Professor Aree Prohmmo and Mr.Niphon Darawuttimaprakorn presented preliminary results according to the project's three work packages, which are Demographic of Thai-Western partnerships in Thailand, Thai-Western Partnerships as Social Relations and Regional development potential from Thai-Western partnerships.
Associate Professor Dusadee Ayuwat and Assistant Professor Sirijit Sunanta were reviewers. The project gains very useful comments and suggestions from the reviewers and participants, who are academics, policy makers, practioners and NGOs. There were about 30 participants attending the meeting. The meeting was at Narai hotel, Silom, Bangkok, Thailand.
“International Migration of Thai Migrants: Situation, Management, and Protection”
Thailand Research Fund together with Mahidol Migration Centre of Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University organized a workshop “International Migration of Thai Migrants: Situation, Management, and Protection” on Friday 22 December 2017 at Novotel, Siam Square hotel, Bangkok. Professor Dr. Isra Sarntisart gave an opening remark followed by a keynote speech titled “Thai cross- borders migrants: Situation, policy and research directions” by Associate Professor Dr. Krittaya Archavanitkul. The main topics of discussions were on Migration Management, Right, Protection and Economic Impacts with 3 migrant groups, including 1) Unskilled Thai Migrants, 2) Skilled and Semi-skilled Thai Migrants, and 3) Life-style Thai Migrants. There were about 70 academics and key policy stakeholders participated in the discussion to identify research opportunity and policy recommendation on the issues in each session.
5 September, 2017: Professor Dr. Aphichat Chamratrithirong, Director of Mahidol Migration Center delivered a keynote address on the Meeting on “Cross border Migration, State of Knowledge on Cross border Migration Management and Protection” organized by Associate Professor Dr. Sureeporn Punpuing, Mahidol Migration Center, Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University with the support of The Thailand Research Fund, at Mercure Hotel, Bangkok. The meeting was attended by participants from national research institutes and academic community on international migration research, NGO’s and national funding agency.
